Which Databases to Support?

Since the mention of the Beta for DiskTriage Version 9.x and the fact that we will be supporting SQL Server, we have had a number of people contacting us asking to support their database of choice.

By far and away the two most requested SQL databases are Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL. So we will be supporting both.

Disk Triage 9.0 development is underway

We have been working on Version 9.0 for a couple of months now and are getting near the first Beta stage. If you are interested in trying the new Beta - contact us at info@timeacct.com.

Version 9.0 will have enhancements to the Additional Statistics and support for other databases such as MS SQL in addition to the current local database - as well as other minor enhancements.

Additional Statistics
- Ability to select exactly which statistics you want to gather while scanning. In the past you always gathered stats by size, attr, date and time. Now you can choose whether to or not
- Ability to gather statistics by directory tree - as opposed to only globally for the entire scan. This means you can click on each directory and quickly show the stats for that directory itself or that sub-tree

Database Support
- Version 9.0 will provide support for the MS SQL database - and possibly others. This will allow users to save the scanned information to a MS SQL database - as well as the current local database that ships with Disk Triage.

Welcome to our Disk Space Content Management Tools Blog

As the title says - welcome to our blog on Disk Space Content Management. We will be covering various disk space related tools and providing information managing the contents of your disk space. The blog will of course focus mainly on our primary tool - Disk Triage. However, we will be mentioning other tools and utilities that both compliment and compete with Disk Triage.

Our goals here will be to

- Encourage discussion of Disk Space Content Management
- Provide you with information on our tool Disk Triage

Disk Space Content Management
This is, in our opinion, different from what a lot of people consider to be Disk Space Management. Disk space management is many times used when referring to managing the hardware or allocation of the space - not the contents. This is extremely common in magazines such as EWeek, Storage Magazine, etc. BTW - Storage Magazine is a very good magazine for those managing large amounts of storage/disk space. If you don't already have a free subscription - I would recommend getting one.
We believe that in order to properly manage your storage resources - you first have to understand what you are storing on them, and how those contents are changing. You cannot properly manage that which you do not understand.

Disk Triage
Disk Triage is a tool that scans, analyzes and reports on the contents of your disk space. We refer to it as a SCAR tool - Storage Content Analysis and Reporting. Disk Triage provides the information about the contents of your disk space to help you properly manage those resources. If you want to learn more about Disk Triage - visit our main web page http://www.disktriage.com.
We will use this blog to inform you of new features, events and changes to our website.
